Résumé

[en] The drápur composed for Hákon Sigurðarson of Hlaðir (r. c. 965-995) share a characteristic blending of stylistic experimentation and mythological imagery and intertwine religious and political sentiments, presenting the jarl as a champion of the traditional way of life and ancestral cults, in opposition to the Christianized Southern rulers.Dynamics of syncretic or antithetic appropriation as forms of reactive response have been proposed for several cultural products of Viking Age Scandinavia. The present chapter addresses passages in which Christian elements appear to have influenced the Hákonardrápur’s re-claim of a ‘heathen identity’.
