[en] With the wonderful prestige of its international PISA test scores, the Finnish education system is the subject of many French studies that seek to determine the secrets of such success, and tend to idealize this Finnish "miracle". This paper proposes the hypothesis of a mystification of the Finnish system, which dates back to the earlier period of universal expositions of the late 19th century. The data consist of printed materials related to exhibitions and school collections. The analysis shows an already “successful” education system, from the late 19th, with respect to the excellent reading command by the vast majority of the Finnish people.

[fr] Auréolé du prestige de ses résultats aux évaluations internationales PISA, le système éducatif finlandais est l’objet de nombreuses études françaises qui cherchent à déterminer les secrets d’une telle réussite, et qui tendent à idéaliser ce « miracle » finlandais. Cet article propose l’hypothèse d’une mythification du système finlandais qui remonterait à la période plus ancienne des expositions universelles de la fin du XIXe siècle. Le corpus étudié est celui des imprimés relatifs aux expositions et collections scolaires. Une première analyse montre un système éducatif performant, dès la fin du XIXe, en ce qui concerne la maîtrise de la lecture par l’immense majorité de la population finlandaise
