[en] The purpose of this paper is to show that verbal prefixation can be defined as a process of formation of a complex predicate linking two predicates and their arguments. The study focuses on the prefix -iš in Lithuanian, and presents a detailed analysis of prefixed verbs which illustrate the different values assigned to this prefix. It establishes that the effects of prefixation on the verb, such as the change of the aspect of the verb, the quantitative or qualitative determinations of the process, the transitivization, the change of the syntactic constructions, of the distribution of the verb, the creation of new lexemes can be analyzed as different combinations of the two predicates that are the verbal base and the prefix.

[fr] L'objet de cet article est de montrer que la préfixation verbale peut être définie comme un processus de formation de prédicat complexe mettant en relation deux prédicats et leurs arguments. L'étude porte sur le préfixe iš- en lituanien, et présente une analyse détaillée de verbes préfixés relevant des différentes valeurs attribuées à ce préfixe. Elle établit que les effets de la préfixation sur le verbe, comme la modification de l'aspect du verbe, les déterminations quantitatives ou qualitatives du procès, la transitivation, la modification des constructions syntaxiques, de la distribution, la création de nouveaux lexèmes, peuvent être ramenés à des combinatoires différentes entre les deux prédicats que sont la base verbale et le préfixe.
